Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA to support the development of a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota joins six other automakers in backing IONNA, aiming to increase the accessibility of charging stations for EV owners.

IONNA plans to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will be equipped with both NACS and CCS connectors, ensuring compatibility with all BEVs. The first batch of DC fast-charging stations is set to be installed this year, with more to follow nationwide.

This initiative underscores Toyota's dedication to BEVs. The automaker currently offers two BEVs: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Additionally, Toyota plans to launch two three-row BEV SUVs soon and aims to expand its lineup to 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

Toyota is joined by other major automakers—BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis—in supporting IONNA. With such strong backing and continued efforts to enhance EV charging infrastructure, the popularity of electric vehicles is expected to grow.
