2021 Toyota Highlander

What's New For the 2021 Toyota Highlander?

The Toyota Highlander doesn't get any changes across the board this year. Instead, it adds a new trim level to the lineup that gives you more standard features from the trim before. The new trim level, called the XSE, has a sporty look and interior updates with more technology and more luxuries. The Toyota Highlander still excels in key areas that have made it a top pick in its class, including strong performance credentials, a nice interior, and a stylish exterior.

Additionally, the Toyota Highlander is produced in two different models that are distinguished by their powertrains. The two options are a gasoline-based Highlander and a hybrid. The 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid doesn't have any changes from 2020, which means you still have all the same great features to look forward to.

What Features Are Available for 2021?

There are six trim levels for the gasoline-based Toyota Highlander and four for the hybrid. The first Highlander trim is the L, which contains tri-zone climate control, remote entry and ignition, split-folding seats, and seating for eight. The base level technology package includes an eight-inch display with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay available through smartphone integration. The Safety Connect communications system is also standard.

The second trim, the LE, gets a liftgate, fog lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The base hybrid trim, the LE, combines the first two Highlander trims' amenities. The Highlander XLE gets a sunroof, heated seats, and simulated leather upholstery. Wireless charging is also added, and you can get captain's chairs to seat seven.

The hybrid's XLE trim adds wireless phone charging and window sunshades. The XSE, a new Hybrid trim, gets navigation and unique exterior accents. The Limited Highlander trim has a heated steering wheel, an intercom system, leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats. On the top trims for both models, you'll get a 12.3-inch touchscreen interface and a panoramic sunroof.
