What's New For The 2020 Toyota Corolla?

If you put the 2019 and the 2020 Toyota Corolla side by side, you'd hardly know it was the same car. The 2020 Corolla, scheduled for release in spring of 2019, hits the market with a bold new exterior look and a revamped interior packed with safety technology and conveniences. The 2020 Toyota Corolla gets a new paint color (metallic gray) for the first time, and each trim level gets a slightly different look with several different styles of LED lights. While some trim levels of the Corolla come standard with the same 16-inch wheels that the Corolla has had in the past, others get bigger 18-inch wheels, which are the largest that the Corolla has ever driven on. Furthermore, you get a choice of steel and alloy for a wheel finish, and the wheels have a twisted spoke design that enhances their appearance. Different levels of the Corolla also get their own unique exterior accents too, including a chin spoiler and aerodynamic fins. In 2020, the Corolla features two new engines (a gasoline and hybrid) and upgraded technology.

2020 Toyota Corolla Has Abundant Features

The 2020 Toyota Corolla comes in six trim levels. Starting at the base model, you'll find a variety of standard amenities and features. This includes a seven-inch infotainment display screen that comes equipped with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and even Amazon Alexa. Just by moving up one trim level, you'll upgrade to an eight-inch infotainment screen with the same amenities plus hands-free calling and voice recognition. A six-speaker audio system is standard on most trims, and you'll also get dual USB charging ports. Integrated LED lights are standard on the XSE and SE trim levels, which improves the Corolla's visibility and gives it a more distinctive look. Although the cabins of the regular and hybrid Corolla are virtually identical, the hybrid's cabin has split-folding seats and a pass-through design that makes it easier to transport skis and other longer objects.

Along with the list of standard amenities, you'll also have a variety of available options with the 2020 Corolla. For starters, you can upgrade to a premium JBL sound system that has nine speakers and produces 800 Watts of power. This sound system also comes with a subwoofer that delivers a deeper bass sound. Adaptive headlights are also available to give the Corolla even more visibility than its premium LED headlights offer.

How Well does the Corolla Perform?

2020 Toyota Corolla Exterior FrontThe amount of horsepower that you get with the 2020 Toyota Corolla varies by trim level. The two base trims of the Corolla are powered by the same engine found in previous Corolla generations. This engine is a 1.8L, four-cylinder engine that creates up to 139 HP. The second engine, which is new for the latest model year, is a 2.0L engine, also with four cylinders, that produces about 30 more HP. Finally, the hybrid gets a new powertrain with a gasoline and electric engine. The gasoline engine generates up to 121 HP, while the electric motor creates just over 70 HP. Combined, they produce up to 105 HP and give the hybrid fuel economy that's about 20 MPG better than what the gasoline versions of the Corolla provide.

The 2020 Corolla has a Long List of Safety Features

2020 Toyota Corolla Exterior RearToyota is known for its award-winning safety, and the 2020 Corolla is no exception. The latest Corolla features a total of eight airbags throughout the interior and a backup camera. All trim levels also get the addition of Toyota's premier Safety Sense package, which adds a variety of driver-assist amenities to each trim level. This includes lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and pedestrian detection. Radar-operated cruise control is also standard. An innovative feature is the highway sign recognition system that displays upcoming traffic signs on the dashboard.
