What's New for the 2017 Highlander?

The latest incarnation of the Toyota Highlander is getting some exciting updates for the 2017 model year, including more aggressive exterior features (redesigned LED taillights and a larger grille), as well as a more commanding V6 powertrain option and a new standard safety suite. To learn more about all of these impressive upgrades and changes, keep reading the rest of our 2017 Toyota Highlander review below!

Excellent Interior & Exterior Amenities

A large, three-row crossover that can seat up to eight, the 2017 Toyota Highlander, available now in San Antonio, has a lot to offer local residents in Alamo City. Shoppers will have their choice between six well-equipped trim levels, with standard features ranging from 18-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery and Bluetooth connectivity to a six-speaker sound system, a media player interface and rear privacy glass.

Opt for one of the higher trims and you'll add features such as a flip-up rear window, a high-res 8-inch touchscreen and a leather-wrapped steering wheel (LE Plus), a sunroof, heated front seats, Driver Easy Speak and navigation (XLE), and 19-inch wheels, sport-themed styling and LED running lights (SE).

Several 2017 Toyota Highlander reviews recommend choosing either the Limited or Limited Platinum if you're looking for the most premium equipment. The Highlander Limited gets heated and ventilated front seats, second-row captain's chairs and a 12-speaker sound system, while the range-topping Limited Platinum adds a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, automatic wipers and front parking sensors.

An All-New V6 Powertrain

There are now two powertrain options on the 2017 Toyota Highlander in San Antonio: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a healthy 185 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque and an all-new 3.5-liter V6 engine that increases output to 295 horses and 263 lb.-ft. of toque. Critics have been very impressed with the latter powertrain, as well as its eight-speed automatic transmission and available all-wheel drivetrain.

Even More Safety Features

On top of the many standard safety systems available on the 2017 Highlander, new crossover shoppers will also find that the sport utility now comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense package that incorporates advanced features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure intervention, automatic high beams and forward collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking right into the crossover's core amenities.
