What's New For the 2020 Toyota Camry & Camry Hybrid?

Now in the middle of its eighth production cycle, the Toyota Camry has established itself as one of the best entries in the midsize sedan market-if not the best outright-due to its excellent fuel economy, superb predicted reliability rating, and robust list of standard features. For the 2020 model year, Android Auto smartphone integration is made standard across the board, and a new trim named TRD joins the lineup. The 2020 Toyota Camry is available as a gasoline-powered vehicle and a hybrid variant.

Which Trims & Features are Available in 2020?

The gasoline-powered version of the 2020 Camry is split into L, LE, XLE, SE, TRD, and XSE trims. (There's a "Nightshade Edition" for the SE trim that provides unique black-finished exterior features.) The hybrid is available as a LE, SE, and XLE model. Two rows of seats for up to five people-with fabric seat trim and 6-way adjustability on the front seats-are standard. Upper-level features include synthetic or genuine leather seat trim, power adjustability on the front seats, 60/40-split-folding ability on the rear seats, and multi-stage front-seat heating and ventilation.

For comfort and convenience, the 2020 Camry starts with features such as a 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, six-speaker audio with AM/FM radio, a USB port, a three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free and a 7-inch touchscreen.

Optional or present on upper-level trims are features such as remote keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a single-disc CD player, a 7-inch TFT multi-information display, trial subscriptions to Service Connect and Remote Connect services, HD Radio technology, wireless device charging, two charging-only USB ports, smart key access with push-button start, navigation, a nine-speaker JBL audio system, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Notably, the TRD stands out with a few touches, such as aluminum sport pedals and a red-stitched instrument panel.

A Perfect Blend of Power and Fuel Efficiency

2020 Toyota CamryThe standard engine on the 2020 Toyota Camry is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which produces 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque on the top-level XSE and 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque on the other gasoline trims. If you go with the TRD, a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque is standard; it is optional on the XLE and XSE. On the Camry Hybrid, the 2.5-liter outputs 176 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque. Still, it is part of a drivetrain that includes an electric motor that provides 118 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque for a total output of 294 horsepower and 312 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is present on the gasoline models, while the hybrid has a continuously variable transmission.

Safety Features in the Forefront for 2020

2020 Toyota CamryMost of the 2020 Toyota Camry's safety features are bundled into the Star Safety System (which includes vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology) and Toyota Safety Sense P (which comes with pre-collision, pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control).

Other standard safety features include hill start assist control, a backup camera, a one-year trial of the Safety Connect telematics system, a 10-airbag system, and ToyotaCare for a no-cost maintenance plan with roadside assistance. Upper-level additions include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a 10-inch head-up display, a birds-eye-view camera, and an anti-theft system.
