Car Not Accelerating

Ā

If your Toyota is having problems accelerating, you probably think that it's time to figure out what the issue may be. Even though acceleration problems won't stop your car from driving, you won't want to let the problem go unfixed, as it can result in more severe engine problems later on. Your Toyota will need to go to our service center to have a mechanic inspect the car and fix the underlying problem. However, before a mechanic checks out your vehicle, we can provide some tips as to what may be causing problems with your vehicle based on the symptoms that it is experiencing.

Dirty Oxygen Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor

One problem that can happen with the car's engine is that a sensor in the engine fails. The engine has a small but critical component called the oxygen sensor. The oxygen sensor is part of a system of sensors and computers that ensures your vehicle has the right amount of air and fuel in the system to work properly. The oxygen sensor is one of two sensors that makes sure the engine has sufficient supplies of air and oxygen to create the proper fuel balance. The oxygen sensor works with the mass airflow sensor, which is a similar part that controls air intake into the engine. Either or both of the sensors can break and malfunction, preventing the mixing of air and fuel.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

The engine also contains a small part called the throttle position sensor. The throttle position sensor detects the opening angle of the throttle valve. The throttle position sensor uses information about the angle to determine how much fuel it should allow into the engine and mechanical system, which helps your car operate effectively. The sensor can break or get dirty, making it harder for the vehicle to regulate its sufficient fuel levels.

Clogged Fuel Filter

The car also has a component in the engine called the fuel filter. The fuel filter is a vital part of any Toyota engine. This filter needs to be kept clean to keep debris from getting into the engine and causing damage. The fuel filter should be changed as necessary based on its physical condition or the replacement guidelines found in the owner's manual in your car.

Dirty Air Filter

The air filter is another part of the engine that generally removes harmful particles to don't find their way into the engine. The air filter should also be changed based on the manufacturer's recommendations to avoid problems.
