    We bought the Sequoia TRD Sport package-with the leather premium package with rear power seats. This is essentially the same as the Limited. Foundationally, all Sequoias are very similar (engine, frame, suspension) except the Premium which has the DVD player and air shocks...and some other minor differences. This vehicle is solid and fun to drive for a large SUV...Although it’s aging design needs a refresh, Toyota doesn’t change what works well. Added safety upgrades-lane departure warning, cruise control radar, blind spot sensors...are great additions. Pros: Engine power, very roomy, comfortable ride, safety features, reliability, turning radius, towing, Toyota long standing solid reputation Cons: Gas mileage, paint scratches somewhat easily, somewhat cheap plastic interior parts. (Do not take through the automatic car wash-especially if you get black. Overall, very nice large SUV. Takes my small army with ease.

    This is the second Toyota Sequoia that I have owned. Previously I owned a 2011 that had 100k miles on it in 6-7 years. The 2018 adds a lot of new safety equipment and overdue upgrades such as LED headlights and fog lights. We have three growing kids and a German Shepherd Dog. Thus, the full size third row seat is a necessity. There is no other SUV that is made that has this amount of interior room as well as adult seating in the third row. There is only two major concerns: MPG is 13-17. On our 2011 Sequoia we averaged 13 b/n city and highway. On the 2018 we are averaging 14.5. This might be because it is newer. The other SUVs play around with variable valve "voodoo" and 10 speeds vs 6. This can get an additional 3-5 mpg depending on the competitor. Here is the difference, 12k a year in miles at $2.35 @ 14 mpg = $2,015 a year in gas; versus 19 mpg for a smaller vehicle with less seating/comfort which would run you $1,485 a year. That is an extra $530 a year in gas to own this versus something smaller. If you only own this for 4 years than its only $2k in gas over the ownership life. Not too big of a deal when put in perspective. My wife loves this truck so much because it is easy to drive and has air ride (platinum model) that allows for the raising of the truck for sport or comfort mode. Awesome features like this make this a sleeper. The engine is "bullet proof" and will last a million miles. Just look at YouTube on the million mile Tundra; same engine that the Landcruiser and Sequoia has in it. Second issue is the small size Nav screen and no apple or android car play. Entune suite of software is fine but a bigger screen would be appreciated. My wife doesn't care because she uses her smartphone plugged into the USB port and uses WAZE or Google Maps. If you are able to find last years model with huge rebates (like we just did) or a DEMO then buy it! You won't be disappointed.

    My wife and I both love driving this SUV. We bought the Platinum edition, 2010 model year. More features & driver control than the Expy Limited we traded in. The center console on the 2nd row is OFF THE HOOK! Love having 3 options to adjust the ride: smooth, normal, sport. GREAT idea to put buttons behind and to the side of the 2nd row seats to lower or raise the 3rd row. You can, as with the Expy, also do that from the back with the tailgate raised. You CANNOT do that in a Chevy or Caddy. Their 3rd row is still manual! STUPID! They haven't changed that since they introduced the 3rd row! We would have bought an Escalade if it weren't for the idiotic 3rd row. But I digress. Back to point: it has so far been everything we expected from Toyota. Reliable, higher quality fit & trim, quieter ride than Expy. The only glaring downsides are 1) DEFINITELY does not have the cargo room of an Expy. 2) Many functions on the nav screen you can't do while the car is moving. It's a safety feature, but did the Japanese forget that PASSENGERS ride in PASSENGER vehicles? 3) Listening to a call coming from the vehicle's bluetooth ain't great. Time will tell on true reliablity, and how I ultimately determine its value. It only has +/- 42,000 miles on it, so I wouldn't expect anything to go wrong mechanically yet. And it hasn't. Not like the GMC I bought whose transmission gave out at 38,000 miles. I will tell you this: the salesman used an electronic tool to test the paint thickness on the Expy we traded in. Any significant variations among the different areas of the car would tell him the car had been repainted, indicating certainly body repair, and possibly an unknown/unreported wreck. I had him test the Sequoia and the paint thickness was twice as much as the Expy. More durable? Harder to damage/scratch?
